Time for the next phase :)

Although I am really happy with the 3.0L stroker, I have decided to start another engine project. I guess I am realizing that I enjoy the project as much (or more?) than the final result. I purchased an S50USB30, which is a 3.0L 24v e36 M3 engine. The engine is from a '95 M3, which is the only OBDI version. The 1995 M3 makes 240 hp at 6000 rpm and 224 ft-lbs of torque at 4240 rpm. I also got the 5spd transmission from the same car. My plans for this engine are a low compression rebuild and a custom turbo setup. My first step will be to clean the engine up and start breaking it down.

Here are a few pictures when the palette arrived:

Once I got the engine on a stand, I was able to really start inspecting it. The car was obviously in an accident, since the motor mounts and a few other things are broken. I still need to determine what the broken bracket is (was) on the right side of the motor, towards the front. There are also two screw holes that have broken off just behind this bracket. I am not exactly sure what these are for, though my guess would be a/c. This may not be a big deal, since I will likely not have room for a/c with the turbo setup anyway...

I pulled out the coils and spark plugs and removed the valve cover. Everything there seems fine, and the engine turns over smoothly.
